Rattan Patio Furniture

You may have seen a new trend in patio furniture that has become very popular in the last few years. The pieces look much more similar to indoor wicker furniture that can be used both indoors and out with sofas, dining sets and all kinds available. The material that is used to make this new patio furniture is called synthetic rattan.

It is possible to buy patio furniture made of natural rattan. rattan is the name given to many species of plant that are found in parts of Asia, Australasia and Africa. It is a climbing plant which gives it its length. After it has been cleaned, it can be woven around a frame to produce all kinds of furniture pieces.

The furniture if often mistaken for wicker furniture however wicker is the actual process of making that style of furniture rather than the material it is made from.

Synthetic rattan can also be made into fabulous patio furniture. Some of the furniture is much more modern than more traditional garden and patio furniture. For example it is possible to buy seating sets that look a lot more like an indoor furniture suite, but made from rattan. When combined with some comfy sofa cushions, the resulting furniture can be a lot more comfortable than a usual deck chair and certainly more so than a plastic chair!

Some of the rattan sun loungers look fantastic in the garden. The pieces look more up-market than traditional garden furniture, looking like something you would be more likely to find beside a pool in the South of France rather than from a home ware store. However, because of the versatility of the material, it is possible to create a whole range of styles than range from the more modern to the more traditional.

Synthetic rattan furniture is made of plastics such as polythene or polycarbonate. However, it can also be made from recycled plastics, giving it that eco-edge over other materials. Because it is made from plastics, you can have your rattan patio furniture in nearly any colour you want. The colour will also not fade as quickly in the sunlight as natural rattan would do.

The best thing about synthetic rattan patio furniture is that it can be left outside all year round. It is waterproof - apart from any sofa cushions you add obviously - and unlike natural rattan, won't grow mould and other growths. Synthetic rattan furniture is a great choice for patio furniture - why not check it out?

Bar Height Patio Furniture - Today's Chic Trend In Outdoor Living Spaces

Bar Height Patio Furniture - Today's Chic Trend in Outdoor Living Spaces

If you want to be considered fashionable by your friends and neighbors, you'll want to make sure you take a good look at today's bar height patio furniture.

Bar Height Patio Furniture is Stylish

I recently went to my friend Sheila's house. She was so excited about her bar height patio furniture that she had to show me! Sheila had just furnished her deck with new patio furniture, and she wanted my opinion.

Sheila had chosen a bar height table with four chairs and an attractive bar height bistro set with two additional chairs. Both sets matched, and best of all, they were not expensive.

Bar height patio furniture is today's newest trend in outdoor living spaces, be it patio, deck or even lawn furniture. By "bar height," this furniture is taller than average, similar to bar stool height.

There are several materials that bar height patio furniture is made from, including wicker, rattan, pewter, aluminum, teak or metal, with some plastic pieces (called "resin") also being manufactured. Some chairs include removable padded seats and backs, while others are designed to be used without cushions.

When you take outdoor furniture into consideration, you'll want to remember to look for furniture that will be weather resistant and last a long time.

Even though you may not spend a lot on your outdoor furnishings, you certainly don't want to be replacing them each year!

Bar Height Patio Furniture is Affordable

Many of the local big box stores like Walmart and Target are carrying bar height patio furniture, but you can also shop online as well as at other local shops. Garden centers, home improvement stores like The Home Depot and Menards, and even some specialty stores may carry this type of outdoor furnishings.

Prices can vary widely, starting at about $219 for a bar height bistro set with table and two chairs.

Online retailers can be more expensive. You'll want to shop carefully since some retailers are looking to sell to those who want a patio set that is unique or one-of-a-kind. For example, the aluminum Tropitone Windsor Bar Height 3 piece Dining Set retails for about $2700.

Patio tables and chairs made from resin seem to be among the more inexpensive deck furniture.

Of course, you may also be able to find "deals" online, since retailers are working hard to encourage spending. Watch for specials and coupons, and don't be afraid to call the company and ask if there are any additional discounts available.

Check for Weather Resistant Finishes

Bar height patio furniture can come in a number of weather resistant finishes. This is something you'll want to research before your purchase. You'll want to make sure that your bar height patio furniture doesn't rust.

In addition, check the warranty on any chair cushions. See if the manufacturer is offering a warranty against the cushions fading.

Bar height tables will typically stand at about 40 inches, with chairs that fit the table comfortably.

Current styles include a table set with several chairs, a bistro set with a smaller table and two chairs, and a bar with stools. New styles are coming out shortly, so if you're on the watch for the most up-to-date look, you'll want to check back online and at your local stores.

I told Sheila that her deck furniture was beautiful!

It made me want to hurry home to shop for my own bar height patio furniture.

If people think of better design you will choose from thicker, shorter, taller, thinner furniture. You will find all of these design in a furniture store and all you need to do is to choose the appropriate design for your patio.

Extravagant teak outdoor patio furniture is not the things that most of us are aware of, its because most conventional retailers don't even offer it. In fact, shopping for outdoor furnishings could be depressing if you really take the time to consider about what the furniture are made from. The common kind of wood is pine it is the most abundant and cheap type of wood. But because it may have a low sap or oil content, pine wood usually dry out fast which it is known to splinter or crack easily. Also pine is very prone to insect damage and rotting. Even if you finish and repair at the end of each season.

In making outdoor furniture, teak wood is basically the best material known. Because of the rubber and high oil content, lovely teak outdoor garden furniture is the ideal wood with regards to insect damage and repelling rot. Patio Design And Patio Furniture - The Use Of Focal Points

A focal point is an important design element; it is a place where the eye naturally comes to rest. In a well-designed patio there is always a planned focal point, such as a large dining set, perhaps with a well-selected umbrella. But a patio’s focal point could also be another interesting object or landscape feature.

Examples of landscape features that can be a patio’s focal point are an interesting pathway leading from the patio to an area beyond, a flower garden, a mature tree, or a dramatic view of the back lawn.

However, an outdoor dining table with chairs is often a natural focal point because of its size. If you intend to have a large outdoor dining set, there are several things to keep in mind.

Be conscious of the style of the table and chairs and try to keep styles the same. If you have a very rustic patio, then a contemporary table and chairs may not go well together. It is usually a good idea to maintain the same decor style.

Select the colors of the furniture and cushions with care. Visualize the furniture in the location where they will be used. The colors should be similar or complimentary to the surrounding area.

An umbrella is a good addition if it is appropriate. An umbrella in an area already covered may look odd. However, umbrellas usually work well in screened-in areas that are still exposed to direct sunlight. If you buy an umbrella separately from the table and chairs, make very sure the colors and patterns go well with each other as well as the surroundings.

A pair of chaise lounges with an umbrella could also be an interesting focal point. The umbrella would have its own stand. Of course, the cushions on the chaise lounges and the umbrella material would have to either match or be complimentary with each other.

A statue, fountain, or other ornament can be used as a focal point. However, several things should be kept in mind. If using a statue, the statue and its size must be in keeping with its surroundings, the style of the house, and the decor of the patio. A large statue of the god Jupiter would probably not look well on a patio with, for example, western decor. But a statue of Venus in a traditional English garden setting would be a pleasing addition. A graceful statue would bring an air of serenity.

Size is important as you would not want to overpower the surrounding garden features with a statue that is too large. One of the most agreeable placements for a nicely sized statue within a garden setting is placement by a wall, such as a red brick wall, especially where there are plants, including climbing plants. Never place a statue in isolation, but in an area where it can become part of its surroundings.

These are but a few examples of possible focal points in a patio or garden setting. There are many other possibilities. The important thing is to include the focal point naturally within the patio or garden environment so that it blends in and be in harmony with its surroundings.

How to Care for a Flagstone Patio

Adding a flogstone patio to your home will provide your household with a whole new living area and come in very handy when you want to entertain your friends or family. This type of backyard accent will boost the value of your home and at the same time provide an area for you and your family to enjoy.

Patios are normally built with pavers, concrete, or flagstone. Patios constructed with flagstone offer up a product that will hold for decades as long as the stones are well taken care of. Because flagstone is porous, it's susceptible to staining and breakage. Fortunately, flagstone is very easy to care for and maintain.

If you are going to invest in a patio, then there are certain maintenance steps you should take to protect your investment and help your patio hold up as the years go on. Without any type of protection, flagstone can begin to shed and the surface can stain and discolor giving it a dull and dingy look.

Flagstone is usually made from layers of sandstone that have bonded together to form rock. Over time, a shedding process begins. Spalling is the name given to this shedding process. The higher quality flagstones shed slower because the stone is harder and denser. The shedding is worse when the stone changes levels. Water can then work its way below the top layer. Then in the colder months, the water freezes and can cause pieces of stone to fall off.

SEALING A Patio:

You can add a sealer that is specifically made for any natural stone to help prevent the water from getting under the stone surface. If your patio has already started to shed, you should remove any weak pieces that are already beginning to break off. Remove the damaged stone first. If you need to, replace broken stone before adding the sealant.

Be sure the surface is clean and free of loose debris. Similar to waxing a floor, you always want to add the protective sealant to a clean floor.

CLEANING A Flagstone Patio:

You'll need a flagstone cleaner, an outdoor broom made with synthetic bristles, a bucket and a pressure washer.

It is recommended that you clean your flagstone patio twice a year but most people just give their patio an annual spring cleaning. Your local hardware store will sell cleaners specifically made for cleaning flagstone. You'll use the bucket for mixing the solution.

Using the bristle push broom, apply the cleaning mixture making sure you cover and brush the solution onto every stone surface and all of the connecting mortar. You may need to apply an extra amount to any areas that are stained. Then let the solution soak in for 5-10 minutes. If there are still some stubborn stains remaining, give them a second application.

Finally, use your garden hose or pressure washer to rinse off the cleaner. Once the area is dry, you are ready to put your furniture back.

Once you've invested in a flagstone patio, it's a good idea to take these easy steps to keep it looking like new.

Patio Accessories Make A Patio Look Aesthetically Pleasing - So Choose With Care

Designing a patio area can be a fulfilling and exciting task for it is the place where the entire family can congregate to rest, relax and entertain themselves. Carefully selecting matching patio accessories for your outdoor garden is very important for only then will it be cohesive and aesthetically pleasing. Examine all the patio furniture and accessories that you will pick out and get the family involved in this, so that everyone will feel that they have been a part of the planning and designing and therefore enjoy the place more.

While some homeowners may entrust the entire task of relaying and decorating their patio in the hands of a professional landscape designer, others would prefer to use their own creative skills to decorate their patio. The former method will give a beautiful, yet formal appearance to the patio, while the latter will bring a more cozy and comfortable appearance. Each homeowner must make their choice depending on their budget and even those who choose to go with a landscape artist can work closely with them so that their personality will be stamped on the patio decor.

Here are some tips on decorating and choosing some simple accessories for the patio:

• Furniture ideas
• Landscaping ideas
• accessories

Before stepping out to choose your furniture, make sure how much space you have. Measure each area of the patio and make notes as to what furniture you want in each space and the size and number of pieces. Apart from home improvement stores, those on a tight budget can wait for discounts to buy their furniture.

Make sure you place the furniture at least 16 inches from the edge of the patio area. Make your choice of patio furniture material based on the climate in your area and the amount of protection your patio has. Those who have permanent concrete patio roofs or patio awnings can go in for wood or wrought iron furniture. Others who only have patio umbrellas for protection can choose aluminum, resin wicker or plastic furniture. Some people wish to enjoy the patio even during cool nights. They can opt for any kind of patio heater available.

If you prefer the traditional fire pit, you can go in for the four-seat patio table, which comes with a built in fireplace right in the center. On the other hand, if you do not want the hassle of starting and keeping a fire going, you can get a fire pit replica like the electric fireplace or go in for natural gas or propane patio heaters. All these will be functional and make the patio a cozy, warm place for cooler evenings and mornings. Get a beautiful water fountain that is available in hardware stores. This is easy to install and brings a certain charm and beauty to the patio.

What is more, listening to gurgling water is always a soothing and relaxing feeling. Those who have the space can create a small pond around the water fountain. This pond can be filled with ornamental fish or water plants like lilies. If you wish to create some privacy in your patio, get a readymade wooden fence that will look stylish and yet protect you from nosy neighbors. Get patio umbrellas or awnings in the right shade to match your patio furniture. Patio cushions and rugs are available in thousands of colors and patterns so coordinating them with the rest of the patio furniture will be very easy.

When landscaping the patio, you can choose the common square or rectangle shapes. Those who want a more chic appearance can add a slight curve that will give it a contemporary flair. Add shrubs and flowerbeds along the curve to make it stand out. The boundary can also have a border of big round pebbles or bricks to enhance the shape of the patio area. Choose your patio flooring carefully depending on the look you wish to give. E.g., terracotta is a Tuscan theme.

Apart from water fountains and fences, other patio accessories are available in plenty. Small garden gnomes standing around the shrubs look quaint. A chimenea is a freestanding terracotta fireplace used in Mexico that has become a popular garden accessory in the US. Those who want to add a dreamy, fairytale touch can go in for patio lights. These can be LED lights strung on the patio umbrella or solar-powered lamps that are energy efficient and available in many designs. Carefully matched patio accessories will make a patio look warm, inviting and stylish.

Adjusting and Fitting New Wheels on a Sliding Aluminum Patio Door

If your patio door is difficult to open and close it may require adjusting or a new set of wheels. Try adjusting the patio door before spending any money on new wheels.

Adjusting the Wheels
The patio wheel adjusting screws are located at either end of the bottom section of the door. Some patio doors have a blanking plug covering the adjustment hole, remove the plug and use a torch to shine into the bottom section of the door to determine where the screw is located and what type of screw it is. There maybe two screws that are visible, one is an adjustment screw and the other is a fixing screw that holds the patio frame together. Use a long screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw in a clockwise direction to raise the patio. Adjust both wheels the same and check if the patio is level by almost closing the door and noting the gap between the door and the frame. Adjust the wheels until the gap is even all the way down. You may need to move the door locking keeper on the frame after adjusting the wheels. If this didn't solve the problem you may need to replace the patio wheels.

Removing the patio door to lubricate or replace the wheels
To replace the patio wheels the door must be removed from the frame. Adjust the patio wheels down to the lowest level by following the instructions above but this time turn the wheel adjusting screws on both doors anti clockwise. This will give you more room to remove the patio door.

Contact your local Glazing company and see if you can rent or borrow two glass lifting suckers from them, this will make the job a lot easier. If you can't get any Glass Lifting Suckers a garden spade can be used to lift / lever the patio door off the bottom track. Take care not to damage the door, frame or sill when doing this. You should be able to lift one side at a time and pull the bottom of the patio door toward you. CAUTION! Patio doors are heavy and I would not recommend trying to remove the door on your own.

Removing the patio wheels
Place the door on trestles and examine the patio wheels. It may be that they just need cleaning and lubricating. If they are damaged or the bearings have gone, you will have to replace them.

Remove the two screws holding the bottom section of the frame. There is one screw either side of the bottom section. Once these have been removed the bottom section can be prized away from the rest of the frame. Be careful not to lever against the glass or you could shatter it. When the bottom section is clear from the rest of the frame you will be able to remove the wheels. Some wheels have a screw holding them in and some are pressed into a holding bracket. If the retaining screws have rusted you can carefully drill them out, taking care not to make the hole in the bottom section any bigger. Contact your local Hardware Store, Glazing Shop or search on Google for replacement wheels.

After fitting the new wheels, make sure that they are adjusted completely flat or into the bottom section. This will give you more room when re-fitting the patio door. The wheels can be adjusted to the correct height after the door is fitted into the frame. Spray the wheels with a silicone lubricating spray. Before re-fitting the door, clear out any debris such as leaves and dirt from the track and spray the track, locking mechanism and top door channel with a silicone lubricating spray. Re-fit the door and adjust the wheels as described above.

The Right Patio Set For Your GardenThe Right Patio Set For Your Garden

By getting the right patio set for the garden, one will definitely get to have the dream garden that he desired. The features that one decides to include in the patio will have the patio looking charming, graceful and out rightly attractive. The main point here is that the patio should transform the home into an attractive, peaceful and enjoyable place to relax for you and the family. It is paramount therefore that the right furniture and the right doors be chosen in order to make this happen. Some of the points to consider while doing so are given below.

One of the very first items one should decide on is the theme of the garden. The theme is what carries the garden to a better state. It will determine which design the patio set will have and will also help decide on the color of the patio set and patio doors. Whenever someone has gotten the theme, say "a 1950's look" the designer can get to decide which materials, designs, tones of color and effects will give this look. Next, one will have to look at what outdoor fixtures are required in making this theme come out as wanted. One of the best ways on how to go about this is to do a sketch of the whole garden. Evaluate each of the fixtures in the sketch and make a judgment on which of the fixtures need to be changed or not. Even on the sketch work, it is important to come up with a decision as if it will be the one to be implemented on purpose.

While making the patio sets, one should then decide on the designs that will be done to all the fixtures. Considering the theme that was stated in the beginning, the design is done. This will touch on the color, and subject of the outdoor work of design. It touches also on the materials that are needed to come up with the design. Some of the materials that can be used may contradict the theme of the garden area. It is therefore necessary to match this theme with the materials that are used on the fixtures.

Included in the making of the garden are the patio doors. There are some factors to consider before the door is fixed. These conditions, which by the way, will follow the exact same procedures as he ones stipulated above will cause a perfect harmony of the theme and the door as a fixture. One of these considerations will include weather. The weather condition certainly will affect the type of door placed on the outside of the home. If there is persistence of cold, long winters it will be necessary to place a door that is thermally insulated against the cold. One will also need to create room for smaller garden areas. Patio doors that use sliding are better than those that use hinges if space is to be preserved. The doors do affect the area of the garden.

A change of scenery is necessary every now and then, and how much easier does it get than simply getting outside of the house? It's hard to beat the simple pleasure of relaxing on the patio and sipping a drink with a friend or reading a good book. While you are enjoying the outdoors, a garden, or patio, awning keeps you protected from the weather. What then are your options?

Retractable awnings are one option and not only do they keep the sun and rain from beating down on you, but they keep your deck, patio, and furniture safe as well. The ability to control the amount of heat that gets to the house from the sun is one of the best aspects of a retractable awning. If it is a particularly hot day, the awning can be extended for a cooling shade. Your electric bill will lower considerably. When the weather turns cooler, simply roll up the shade of the awning and let the sun's warm (and free) rays heat your home. Whatever your needs, the retractable awning can be extended and retracted accordingly.

Stand alone awnings offer similar protection to that of retractable awnings, but they can be placed wherever you need it. Because they don't need to be attached to the house or other structure, you can cover up a vehicle, garden, or play area on any location you want. Though stand alone awnings lack the simple amenities of retractable awnings, they are not permanently attached to anything and can be relocated if needed. One other concern involved with stand alone awnings is that they do not receive the wind protection provided by a house or other building. Seek awnings with frames made from sturdy metals. It will be worth the extra cash.

The different materials that awnings can be crafted from offer options as well. Wooden frames are perfect if you wish to add style as well as practicality. The wood makes the awning look natural and provides a rural look that other materials cannot. They need regular treatment, however, because wood will warp and splinter if unprotected against water and wind. Aluminum frames are lightweight, making them attractive to attach to a house or other building. High grade aluminum is pricier, but it can withstand the weather better. Vinyl requires the least effort to maintain, but it can be a burden to put up at first. Once it is erected, however, you can leave it alone for the most part.

Garden/patio awnings come in many styles and with several types of frames. Decide upon the look and style that is perfect for you and you will have protection outside from the weather. Awnings are a great way to enjoy the outdoors in comfort.

Flooring For Your Patio - Here Is What You Should Do

What factors should you consider when choosing the flooring of your patio? The first and most obvious factor is comfort and convenience. If you have many kids and if they love playing in the patio every evening, you should opt for flooring that will not cause them to skid or slip very easily. This will help you avoid unnecessary injuries when kids run too fast on the floor of the patio.

Safety First

If it rains a lot, the combination of a slippery floor and water can lead to disastrous consequences. On the other hand, if you do not have any kids or if the patio is protected from rains, you can opt for expensive and smooth flooring to improve its appearance. Give equal importance to comfort, convenience and safety for maximum benefits.

Beauty Next

The second factor that you should consider is the beauty and the aesthetic of the flooring. Many persons opt for flooring that makes the patio look an extension of the house. Well, if you have a patio situated right in the middle of the garden, opting for mosaic flooring that resembles your drawing room does not make sense.

Why would you want your guests to get a drawing room feel when they are in the middle of natural surroundings? Should you not try to give a separate and distinct feel? How about earthen tiles? Opting for clay tiles can be a very expensive affair because it will break very often and lead to frequent damage and repairs. Well, you can opt for cement or other tiles with a clay or earthy finish.

Variety And Coolness Quotient Next

If you do not intend to walk on the floor of the patio very often, you can opt for flooring with design that may not be very comfortable for your feet but make the room look very good. If you are not keen on adding cement and concrete to the flooring, you can opt for hardened mud that is just an extension of your garden.

Of course, this will bring its own set of problems and complications. However, there is no denying that a well maintained earthen floor has a charm and appeal that no other flooring option offers.

Choosing the right flooring can be difficult unless you know what you are doing. Just make use of online resources to understand the various options before proceeding. You will have sufficient scope for getting the best deal at affordable prices if you use online tools.

Spicing Up a Patio Or Deck With a Fire Pit

Patios and decks are great outdoor spaces. Many home owners do not take advantage of the large open space they have available. Luckily, a patio or deck can be improved at any time and some improvements do not require any money at all. A great method of improving your outdoor living space is to install a fire pit.

People love to have an outdoor fire throughout the year. It helps them feel like they are escaping from their lives and going back to an easier time. The moon and stars can be seen on a very dark night in a rural area. Plenty of individuals choose to burn broken branches, twigs and other small yard waste in their fires. Others pick out only the best logs to ensure they have one of the longest fires possible.

Another great idea for an outdoor deck or patio is weeding. There are people who get so busy with their lives that they let their yard turn into a jungle. Most homeowners want to have their yard looking well kept and trimmed. Taking an hour per month to remove the weeds from your yard, patio and deck area allows your home to look so much better. Weeds can be burned in most fire pits. Check with your local authorities before conducting any open burning as some regulations may apply.

Purchasing flowers at a nursery can be pricey. It may be a better idea to transplant flowers from a friends home or community garden to the area around your patio or deck. Many times you can get these flowers for free and they are beautiful. Check to ensure that the flowers receive the correct amount of sun and water throughout the growing season.

The decision to add a fire pit to your patio or deck is easy. There are pits that range in size, design and color. It is important to allow room for embers to blow out and not hit a wall. Try to place a fire pit so that it does not touch a wall or any other structure. Remember to carefully watch any fire and always extinguish the fire with sand/water after you have finished.

The 3 Types of Patio Awnings on the Market

The patio in your home is the place that you either entertain or relax. But during summer the heat and sun can make it very uncomfortable. Even during the colder months you could get more use out of your patio if you were to have some protection from the wind or rain.

This is where a patio awning can be a huge asset. By providing against protection against the sun in summer and the rain in winter, an awning can turn your patio into an outdoor room for your house. Some people even go as far as placing televisions and couches on their patio so they can enjoy these comforts in the outside air.

There are generally 3 different types of patio awnings. The first is the canvas awning. As the name suggests, they are made from tough canvas. The second is a metal or aluminum awning that stretches over the patio like another roof. The third is a retractable or electric patio awning that can be retracted or extended when you need it for protection. These awnings can be automatic which means they can move with just a touch of a button.

Both the canvas or metal awnings are fixed, meaning that they cannot be retracted. This means you need to be carefully if you live in a high wind area. Otherwise, you may find that the awning becomes damaged during high winds. Retractable awnings can be retracted when the weather turns bad.

When selecting a canvas awning, it is important to consider the type of material that it will be made of. You want one that has high UV protection. If you will be cooking on your patio then you want one that is fire resistant and won't absorb smells or smoke. It is even possible to buy awnings made of canvas that will actually drop the temperature below by up to 20 per cent.

Another essential consideration is the look of the patio awning. A great idea is to search through home and garden magazines. You will find pictures of various awnings and can easily imagine what they will look like against your house. There will also be a list of prices so that you can compare the costs across the different awnings.

In summary, patio awnings provide protection against the sun and rain so that you can entertain or relax on your patio in comfort. You will need to choose three types of awnings - canvas, metal or retractable - and a great way to see what a an awning will look like on your home is to browse through home and garden magazines.

The author is an internet expert on buying a patio awning and can give you plenty of advice on purchasing a canvas patio awning.

Deck, Garden and Patio Ideas

Planning your deck, garden or patio in detail is the most essential part of any outdoor project. Creating a "Comfort Zone" isn't difficult when you determine what comfort levels most suit you or your family. Today's accent is on creating beauty with simplicity and simplicity with elegance and charm while extending comfort and tranquility.

The Outdoor Deck

An outdoor deck is a wonderful extension of the style of a home. However, a deck doesn't have to "match" exactly. A large, well furnished deck setting that offers a view is ideal. But, the "view" can easily be created with subtle landscaping, lighting and furniture accents like a fire pit, chimney, even the newest fashion trend, a "cairn" built from interesting rocks and a lantern included for subtle lighting.

Gardens of Delight

Gardens have many diverse themes incorporating and highlighting flowers, trees, bowers, trellises, arbors, pergolas and espaliers. Bring back the pleasures of garden charm that compliments each season of the year from any view inside or out. Symmetry is important to balance in a garden. Dark colors of evergreens should be located as a "base" for lighter color shrubs or flowers. Balance flowers that drink in the sun with a moon garden, flowers that bloom best when after the sun goes down, like primroses or moon flower. Remember vegetables serve as ornamental accents too.

Shopping for Unusual Garden Accents

It's possible to acquire unusual garden accents from pieces sold at garage sales and estate auctions. An outdoor accent bench or chair can be easily restored and used for potted plants. The same is true of old garden tools, like rakes. Reduce the handle size. Give it a brightly colored coat of paint, install the shortened rake on the side of a shed with the tines at the bottom. Then, hang potted plants from the tines.

Patio Chairs - Outdoor Furniture Protection 365 Days a Year

Though wooden patio chairs are manufactured to be strong, good-looking and long-lasting, there is a basic level of maintenance required if you want to get the most mileage out of your purchase. And taking care of those chairs outdoor is not just a summer job; it requires a yearly commitment. A few checkups and some elbow grease administered throughout the seasons will keep old furniture looking like new.

Springtime:
As the winter frost turns into a spring thaw, all the animals start to come out of hibernation and that's when you can bring chairs outdoor too. Remove and store any tarps or covers that you used and fold them up neatly and keep them stored in dry, cool areas where they won't get wet or too hot. Moisture can lead to black mold, while heat can melt the tarp material.

Once you get chairs outdoor, wipe off cobwebs and other debris using a damp rag or even your garden hose. Once the major dirt is off, you will want to clean your chairs outdoor with soap and water or a mild wood detergent. At this point, if you've noticed any of the paint or varnish peeling or chipping, you will need to sand down the entire chair and repaint or re-coat it before proceeding.

As part of regular patio furniture maintenance, oiling is important for chairs. Outdoor elements tend to dry out the natural moisture and oils inside the lumber's heartwood, so you will need to oil wood anywhere from one to a few times per year. Take into account that some woods, like teak and cedar, produce their own natural oils and that too much oil can actually have an adverse effect on lumber and cause it to turn black.

If you chairs have matching cushions, remove the waterproof nylon covers and toss them in the washing machine. They usually zip right off. The insides of cushions are also waterproof, made from a synthetic poly fill, but they aren't usually suited for machine washing. For stains and musty odors, you can use a damp rag or a disinfectant cleaner.

Also, it's important to look at the metal hardware on chairs, as well as the condition of the wood itself. Rusty joints, warped and broken pieces of wood should be replaced at once. Otherwise, small splits in the wood can usually just be sanded down.

Summertime:
Summer is often the easiest time to care for patio chairs because that's when you most use them, so you'll notice when things need work. Wipe up any spills as soon as they occur to minimize the chance of them setting into the wood using a damp rag. For stronger stains, try the same wood cleaner you used in spring, but is the stain is especially stubborn you may have to work in concentrated areas using a bleach and water solution. At the same time, wipe off chairs outdoor after rain showers so that moisture is not on there longer than necessary. Cushions should be brought indoors when it begins to rain, or else stored outside in watertight bins.

Autumn:
When the summer season comes to an end it's time to starting thinking about where you want to store your chairs throughout winter. Will you leave your chairs outdoor or bring them inside into storage? This is another good occasion to oil chairs outdoor as needed before they're stashed for the next few months, especially if your storage space has dry air.

Cleaning chairs off one last time is recommended so they won't have to sit all winter with stains or dirt just getting more embedded. Also, check to see that furniture is 100 percent dry before covering up. Damp furniture will develop mold, especially if trapped under a tarp. These tarps are ideal environments for mildew because they trap heat and moisture and let in minimal air.

Wintertime:
At the end of the year, try and get chairs covered before it gets too cold or wet to work with. You will then have to decide whether to keep your chairs outdoor or take them inside into storage. If kept outdoors, you will absolutely need to use a strong, waterproof tarp or chair cover that fits snugly over the entire piece. If, on the other hand you have space to bring your chairs inside, tarps are still a good idea, as they protect chairs from indoor dust and insects.

Patio Furniture For Your Garden

There are many different styles, types, and designs of patio furniture available. Ranging from the inexpensive but typically short lived and even flimsy plastic furniture, to the natural looking but heavy and potentially weather damaged natural materials you really do have a massive choice ahead of you when shopping for patio furniture or outdoor furniture of any description. One of the more recent and popular additions to this range is modern wicker furniture, offering flexibility, weather resistance, and durability with inexpensive prices.

Eating Out

Whether you eat alone or with the family, or even if you regularly entertain parties of people, outdoor dining furniture is a great way to enjoy your meals outside. Wicker patio furniture sets include a strong dining table and two or more chairs. The table and chairs typically utilise an aluminum frame for strength and weather resistance as well as a wicker covering which provides the same great benefits with a unique and contemporary look.

Sitting Out

The garden is also the ideal place just to sit out and enjoy the summer months. From sunbathing and relaxing to reading a book and having a drink you can choose between wicker chairs and wicker lounge chairs. Where the wicker chair offers a more upright and fixed position, a lounge chair provides several different reclined positions including one that is fully horizontal. You can also buy wicker coffee tables and end tables to add extra convenience to your patio set.

Entertaining

Entertaining guests in the garden allows you all to enjoy the weather and for parties it means that there is less danger of breakages and spillages causing damage to your home. Wicker chairs, a wicker dining set, and wicker tables are particularly useful for entertaining because they look good and work well outside, but also because they are easy to clean and simple to maintain. You don't need any special cleaning materials or detergents and can simply wipe down spills with a damp cloth.

Conservatory Furniture

The conservatory is another area of the house that requires special attention when choosing furniture. While it may not need to be able to withstand the rain, it will have to be able to cope with prolonged exposure to the sun and may even need to be able to withstand regular cold conditions during the winter. Modern wicker outdoor furniture offers all of these benefits and many more besides. Wicker sofa sets include one or more sofas, individual chairs, and tables, and are modular in design so you can get exactly the layout you want in your home.

More Wicker Furniture Items

End tables, coffee tables, individual chairs, and bistro style sets are all available in modern wicker designs. You can create a unique space in the garden by including these and other items of wicker patio furniture. Simple to clean and often including colourful and personalised cushions and cushion covers, they offer a very unique and contemporary design for the garden.

Accessories

Wicker dog beds allow the whole family, including your four legged friend, to enjoy the outdoors. Wicker flower pots not only use high grade synthetic wicker and aluminum frame but they also incorporate an alloy lining to prevent damage that might otherwise be caused by wet soil and other materials and flowers within the flower pot themselves. Wicker patio furniture enables you to design your garden, decking, and patio the way you want it to look.

Modern Patio Furniture Designs

Choosing patio furniture means finding a design you like but also selecting items that will last for years while continuing to look great throughout that period. As well as features that you would look for in any furniture, such as high quality materials and a resistance to regular use, you should also consider the furniture's ability to withstand the elements. Sets of patio furniture offer a uniform look and choosing wicker outdoor furniture enables you to include a contemporary but natural looking feel to your outdoor space.

Why Choose Wicker Patio Furniture?

Modern wicker patio furniture is quite different to the more traditional wicker pieces. Synthetic wicker is manufactured and treated in such a way that it will be able to withstand regular and thorough use. It is also weather proof so can be left out in the rainy season and throughout the summer months without suffering as a result. Strong and durable, synthetic wicker is also very flexible so a good range of wicker garden furniture designs are available.

Lounge Chairs

Wicker lounge chairs provide the kind of natural look that suits virtually every garden. A selection of colours is available but they all typically match the natural wood colours that are most often used in the design of outdoor furniture. Wicker lounge chairs are luxurious to look at and comfortably luxurious to sit or lye on. Cushions are available in a selection of colours to add a real injection of colour and character to your garden furniture.

Outdoor Dining Sets

An outdoor dining set usually consists of a tempered glass table and two or more wicker dining chairs. The tempered glass is designed for use outdoors so again you don't need to worry about fining storage space during winter and is also easy to care for. Various designs of furniture may be combined with interchangeable cushions covers so you can match the colour to your mood, your guests, or the occasion. Alternatively, you can use one set while you wash another.

Conservatory Sofa Sets

While the conservatory is, strictly speaking, an indoor space it essentially merges with the outdoors. Large windows that spread across the entire room allow a lot of light in and this adds a new element to selecting furniture for use in the conservatory. Where indoor furniture might fade when left in the window for a long period of time, wicker furniture will not. Wicker sofa sets are modular in their design and can include sofas, individual chairs, coffee tables, and even end tables.

Occasional Furniture And Other Items

To create a unique finish for your conservatory or to add extra functionality to your outdoor furniture set you may choose to include extra items as well as the main furniture items. Wicker outdoor furniture can include end tables, coffee tables, and dining tables as well as individual chairs and other useful and good looking pieces of garden furniture.

Dog Beds, Flower Pots, And More

As well as furniture, you can also add accessories like dog beds and flower pots that are made from the same synthetic wicker material. This offers a uniformity that you wouldn't get if you chose other accessories made from different materials and it allows your four legged friend to enjoy the fresh air at the same time as you. All wicker furniture and accessories are durable and easy to look after.

Outdoor furniture and accessories made from synthetic wicker can be found at the Bullz.ca website; filled with unique and great looking garden furniture ideas for your home.
