Patio Rooms

Patio rooms are a growing trend among homeowners who want the patio to be an extension of the house. During the warm summer months, people often spend more time on the patio than they do in their living room and kitchen. Therefore they want the patio to become a room where they will feel comfortable and relaxed. The patio in the backyard has become the focal area for entertainment as people gather to enjoy a barbecue. It also eliminates having a mess in the living room or den because everything, cooking and entertaining, is done outdoors.

Having a patio that looks like a room in your home takes a bit of creative work. Before you start to build the patio of your dreams, you need to decide what kind of furniture you will have and if there are any decorative features, such as fountains or planters you want to include. The average patio is about 300 to 400 square feet, so you can mark off this space in your backyard to see if it will be sufficient. The size of the patio also has to suit the size of the house because a large patio on a small house is not aesthetically pleasing.

If you place furniture just outside the patio door, it makes the patio look inviting, just as your living room is. This invites guests to go out on the patio and have a seat. You can have cushions in the same pattern as the furniture just inside the door, truly making the patio an extension of the room. Built-in benches of the same material of the patio give you extra seating area that blends into the patio and does not stand out.

A grill or barbeque should stand out because this says that you will be doing cooking in this room. You should make sure you have it placed in the best location on the patio so that it is sheltered from the prevailing winds allowing you to cook in comfort when you are outdoors.
