This is ultimately the most important, for this will protect your home any water damage and also keep any water from running onto your porch or deck, whichever you may have.
When you install the flashing, you need to caulk a large bead of sealant to the back side of the flashing. This will assure you that no water gets behind the flashing and on to the home or porch from the where the roof meets the house. This is the two most critical things to assure that your project turns correctly and does not leak on the porch or down the outer walls of your home.
